Dear Reader,

Wild Geese | Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting–

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.

In these verses, I find echoes of my own journey, a reminder that amidst the chaos and demands of the world, there’s a sanctuary within us waiting to be discoveredβ€”the sacred temple of our own bodies.

Picture this: every fiber of your being humming with the secrets of the cosmosβ€”the soft inhale of breath, the steady pulse of your heart. he spanda, the great pulsation, and ebb and flow of prana, or life force, are ever-present, continuously engaging in a delicate dance with everything around us. Our bodies are not mere flesh and bone; they are a symphony of life, intricately connected to everything around us.

Consider your heartbeatβ€”the drumbeat of your existence, echoing cosmic rhythms from the womb to the last moment. Each throb reflects your deepest feelings, connecting us with others and syncing with the universal cadence that binds all of life. The

Take a deep breath. Feel your lungs expand, cradling your heart within. As you exhale, release the weight of the worldβ€”a graceful act of letting go. Every incoming breath sustains life, every outgoing breath a gentle surrender.

Your skin, a canvas of life’s stories, invites us to experience the world in its raw authenticity. Through touch, we communicate, connect, and ground ourselves in the present moment. Through touch, we bring peace.

And let’s not overlook the remarkable power of neuroplasticityβ€”the brain’s ability to evolve, adapt, and grow with every experience, a testament to our resilience and infinite potential.

But here’s the magic: our bodies aren’t just shaped by our experiences; they carry the echoes of our ancestors, the wisdom of generations past, woven into the fabric of our DNA.

We possess an incredible capacity for healing, weaving stories of resilience and renewal with each moment.
